About Us

New Orleans has a history of having great people and an exciting culture. The same thing is evident for our technology community. Our city is under a period of revitalization and technology is playing a big part. NewOrleans Tech.Net is a service organization that was founded to highlight the tech movement that is going on in the city. Our purpose is to highlight groups, meet ups, events, and provide information that make our readers think about technology in different ways. We want people to know that there is a vibrant tech community here in New Orleans with programmers, developers, and tech entrepreneurs. It’s our culture that makes us unique and different from everyone else in the world.

We have three initiatives that come out of our organization which are the website, our tech podcast, and our community outreach projects.

Website

On our website we produce articles surrounding the following topics:

Featured News: Any late breaking, urgent, or news that we feel is very important.
Up & Coming: Dedicated to technology startups and projects in the city.
Tech Resources: Tips, tricks, resources for local NOLA techies.
Geek Ups: Posts about meetups, events, or conferences.
The Analog Spot: What’s hot in regards to tech everywhere else on the web.
NOLA TechTalk: Interviews with tech figures around the city.

Podcasts

Our tech related podcasts called The Bangitout Show focuses on local and national technology news that our readers should be aware of. Visit our podcast page to listen to the most recent episodes.

Community Outreach

Our community outreach consists of supporting or sponsoring tech based endeavors that add value to the community. Our first event, Youth Barcamp, will be taking place in Spring 2010 and will be a two day workshop for youth that teachers emerging technologies. We are also supporting NOLA Linux Against Poverty which will take decommissioned computers, breath new life into them, and redistribute them as computer labs for needy organizations.
