Crimestoppers GNO has partnered with CrimeReport and launched a new mobile app that will help citizens in New Orleans report crime. TipSubmit Mobile will allow tipsters to submit secure and anonymous tips to Crimestoppers GNO and other law enforcement agencies in the surrounding area. The app even allows you to submit images and video with your tip. It also features a real-time chat with the receiving agency.
TipSumbit uses your phones built-in GPS location to get your current location to pinpoint the agency in your area. Searching the New Orleans area, we found several agencies listed such as Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office and New Orleans Crimestoppers. Once an agency is selected, the app will ask you to select a password. This is done to keep your tips anonymous when sending them in.
The New Tip feature is where tipsters can report the offense they see including armed robbery, theft, and more. You also have the option of entering in the suspect’s name, appearance, clothing, and address. Other options include if the suspect was in a vehicle, and a description of the crime along with images or video of the incident. Another great feature is the real-time chat section. Once a tip is reported, tipsters can engage in a real-time chat dialogue with a first responder with the agency they submitted the information too.
Eddie Brown, resident of New Orleans, said he would be more prone to use the app because of its quickness and ease of use. “I would use this definitely use an app like this if I saw a crime happening. It seems like a quick and easy way to notify the proper people and also help fight crime in my area.“ said Mr. Brown. According to NOLA.com, Crimestoppers Executive Director Darlene Cusanza said the app comes just in time for Mardi Gras. “This is just another way to help law enforcement; being able to have the eyes and ears of the community,” Cusanza said. Tipsters also have the potential to receive rewards up of to $1000 for information submitted to Crime Stoppers when using the app.
The app are available for free for iPhone and Android based phones.
