JazzFest is one of those New Orleans festivals that we all fall in love with. The smell of crawfish Monica, the amazing line up of signers that perform, and crafts that are sold on the grounds evoke the true spirit of New Orleans. But just like any other festival, it's good to prepared before you head out the door. Before the explosion of mobile apps, you had check the JazzFest website to see who was playing, print out a map of the grounds, and kind of get a sense of where things were once you hit the area.
But if your an iPhone user, you can thank OffBeat Magazine for launching a JazzFest iPhone App that really puts the entire festival in your pocket. The iPhone app lists JazzFest stage schedules, a map of the grounds, where to find the best food, different venues, and JazzFest artists you want to connect with.
App Features
Updates: Just in case there is a last minute change at the festival, users can select the Updates tab to get short snippets of what changed on that day.
JazzFest Stage Schedules: In here you'll find the daily JazzFest schedule (the one that you usually have to carry or print out) giving you times, artist, and the stage that they'll be on.
JazzFest Map: You can walk around in circles until you find what your looking for or use the JazzFest map with a color coded legend to point you in the right direction.
JazzFest Artists: If you want to find out about any artist that will be at the festival, the JazzFest Artists tab displays an A-Z listing, Fest Focuses, and OffBeat Picks of every performer.
JazzFest Food: This by far has to be the part part of the app. The "where can I find {insert food name here}" part. The JazzFest food area will breakdown all the different food you can spend your money on by category, food area, or OffBeat staff food picks.
Venues: Another favorite is the venues area. Say your a tourist and want to find out what to do around the city after JazzFest, the venue area will break clubs, bars, and eateries throughout the entire city. Everywhere from Carrollton to the Bywater you can find out the location, phone numbers, and short descriptions of what the place is.
Other Niceties
Another area that we found interesting was the Submit Your Photos area of the app. Take a picture with your phone, open up the app, and send it to OffBeat to include in their magazine. Also if your own Twitter & Facebook, you can follow OffBeat's JazzFest updates straight from your phone.
All and all, we found the app to be very convenient if you want to get JazzFest information on the go. On top of that the app is free, so we call this a win-win.
