Come Geek Out At SharePoint Saturday NOLA!
SharePoint Saturdays have been springing up like wildflowers all across the country in an effort to promote it’s capabilities to IT professional and businesses. Before we get into the why you should attend, who will be there, and what your going to learn, let’s first find out what SharePoint is (because I know some of you were scratching your heads, c’mon you can admit it). Developed by Microsoft, SharePoint is an integrated suite of server capabilities that help organizations with things such as document management and even social networking. According to Microsoft, the platform gives developers and IT admins tools to help with server administration, application flexibility, and interoperability. Giving it more creditability are some heavy hitting organizations such as Kraft Foods that utilizes it as a content management system and Continental Airlines which uses it as an internal collaboration tool with its partners.
This Saturday (Feb. 27th, 2010), the first Sharepoint Saturday NOLA (#SPSNOLA) will be hitting New Orleans with a star studded list of speakers from the Sharepoint community, engaging workshops, and a plethora of knowledge about Sharepoint tools. Paul Swider, President of the Charleston SharePoint Users Group is presenting “The Humanizing of SharePoint 2010″ which talks about using the infrastructure for building socially networked applications and how you can leverage this in an enterprise environment. David Peterson’s upbeat workshop entitled “What I Wish I Knew BEFORE I Implemented SharePoint” helps Homer Simpson types before they have a “d’oh what am I getting into now” moment. His talk lets IT admins know that sometimes things just don’t go right but he’ll help you formulate a plan so you don’t end up on failedITprojects.com. “If you are considering SharePoint, just getting started or are an experienced SharePoint pro, there will be something available for you.” says Mr. Peterson.
According to New Horizons of New Orleans & Antares Technology Inc, the two main hosts for the event, the speakers are experts (and not the fly by night types, we’re talking about real experts) in the SharePoint community. Although it’s tailored toward IT admins, developers, and business managers anyone who wants to learn about the platform, gain knowledge to add to their repertoire, and raise their geek cred can come out to the event.
Learn, mingle, eat, and network all on somebody elses dime. Afterwards, you can be on the lookout for a SharePint tweetup (playing on the SharePoint theme) at the MyBar on Bourbon St.
